Join The Debate: Deforestation
Can't stand that the world may end because of
global warming? Love to relax on stylish
furniture? Not really care as long as you can eat
at McDonalds? What are your views on
deforestation? Join the debate.

Deforestation
It's unbelievable how much rainforest is cut down
in one minute (or it might be second, I'm not
sure). The figure's around the size of 40
football pitches! If people could just make the
effort to replant trees after they've been cut
down, the effects of global warming might be
slowed down. Also, we depend on plants for
oxygen, so by cutting them down, we are bringing
the end of life on this planet ever nearer.

Deforestation
Quite an often missunderstood subject.
Softwood deforestation is another subject and has
most recently become a sustainable industry.
Most deforestation of hardwoods is not for
furniture manufacture, or other man made objects.
What most people miss is that this is carried out
for the construction industry (concrete) with the
worst offender being Japan. How many people knew
that one then?

Hardwoods
What's the point of hacking down valuable,
irreplacable hardwoods when fast-growing, cheap
softwoods work just as well, sometimes better!?
Wildlife need hardwood trees standing up, we
don't need them lying down or in fifteen
different places all over europe and the USA.
Loggers should think about the environment and
wildlife before starting flattening an area...
but, then again, it's not their strong point -
thinking, that is.

Aliens in the N.E Tennessee Mountains!
It's true. You've got to see it to believe it!

We were doing Deforestation in Geography
recently. I agree with Richard. I am not going
to buy any hardwood, hopefully.

Deforestation
Its unacceptable! Not only are we destroying the
wildlife and beautiful enviroment, but we are
taking away the lungs of the earth!

the following is a report by, me!!
Forests are important ecosystems in our world.
They give us oxygen from the
trees and many other useful resources, such as
wood for paper and furniture. Sadly,
human interference has caused so much damage
that the forest needs our help. This is the
manager’s point of view. People should be forest
managers because the forest needs
prescribed burns to better protect it from crown
fires, tree thinning gives space and less
competition to the ecosystems, and clear cutting
does not need to be included.
Fires can help to maintain a healthy
environment. Putting out natural fires caused
leaf-litter build up, too much underbrush. The
underbrush over grew until a ground fire
started. The ground fire rose up and quickly
became a crown fire. The crown fire grew
out of control and destroyed acres of forest
land. Prescribed burns help to destroy
underbrush. They help to prevent crown fires.
The space left leaves room for new plant
growth. Prescribed burns are able to help for
the environment.
Tree thinning is also helpful. The
forest is less crowded. Large animals, such as
deer, bears, or moose, can easily move around.
There is less competition among plant
life. The trees left become healthy and
strong. The sun reaches more of the smaller
plants. All that and the trees cut down provide
wood for us, to use as pencils, desks, or
houses. Tree thinning helps the forest.
Clear-cutting is terrible for the
environment. Many mangers agree with that.
Unprotected, exposed, and vulnerable soil can
wash away, leaving the land unfertilized
and barren. New growth is hard to develop and
takes an extensive amount of time.
People do not need to believe in clear-cutting
to be managers. Clear-cutting is not
necessary.
People should be forest managers because
the prescribed burns helps makes
space, tree thinning is helpful, and clear
cutting doesn’t need to be included. If people
become forest managers, rather than
preservationists, the environment will keep from
vanishing. The forest needs help after all the
years of human interference. By being
mangers, man-kind can help to undo the past and
still be able to provide a much-needed
resource.
